by all accounts the first-ever leadership conference
for women of diverse ethnic backgrounds to be held
at an historically Black college or major university,
met with unprecedented success.
Spelman LEADS the Way to the Next Frontier of Leadership (PDF/380k)

— On
October 9, 2003, Spelman College launched its Center
for Leadership and Civic Engagement (Spelman LEADS).
Founding co-directors, Pamela Carlton and Kimberly
Davis were instrumental in creating LEADS, a research
institute for women of color dedicated to leadership
development, economic empowerment, advocacy, dialogue
and service learning.
